Successful Aging is in Your Control
How many times have you browsed the self-help and psychology aisle of your favorite bookstore to find the right book to make life, well, more fulfilling? In fact, today’s internet enables us to search and connect to videos, e-books, audiobooks, and other mediums to find those answers. However, this type of search is not a once-and-done venture. Life comes in seasons that change us and our surroundings as we age.
Abraham Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs places the full manifestation of one’s abilities and appreciation for life at the top of his famous pyramid of needs. However, many of us are searching to meet our more basic physical, social, emotional, and financial needs. Once we have the basics, we free up our minds set a path toward the life we want to live.
Listen, Learn and Live
Join us for a new podcast series made for you. No more browsing the web or stores to find the answers. Sit back and enjoy a conversation between friends on this journey. While we may not have all the answers you seek, our six-podcast series challenges you to take a closer look at your own life. In fact, we ‘assign’ you homework in podcasts two through five. Don’t worry, we are not grading your work, that’s your job. This work is for you, and only you.
Your Future Self is the name of this series. Your hosts are Christopher Maclellan, also known as the Bowtie Guy, and me, Monica Stynchula. We hosted the popular series “It Takes a Team to Care” in 2018 on The Whole Care Network. Chris is an author, public speaker, and well-known podcaster who owns The Whole Care Network. Chris and his now-deceased partner were featured in a 2015 Pulitzer Prize-nominated story ” In Sickness and in Health: A Couple’s Final Journey.” I am an entrepreneur leading a certified female-owned company REUNIONCare that also includes The Caregiver Accelerator, CreditForCaring, and Caregiving Tech. In addition, I am a member of the Small Business Administration’s National Women’s Business Council. Together we share our love for caregivers and building an ecosystem of resources to support the army of selfless family caregivers.
Lessons of Self Care
Chris and I will challenge you to review who you are and what life is about. Do you live every day with a sense of fulfillment and joy? Do you understand that helping others should not hurt you? We believe it is necessary to say NO sometimes, we’ll teach you how to do that. In fact, we will urge you to fill your cup before you fill up others (a very hard concept for caregivers to embrace). And lastly, we discuss the mistakes we made by not putting ourselves first.
